Laser Surgery (LANAP)

When pocketing and bone loss have progressed due to periodontitis, additional procedures may be necessary to stop the progression of gum disease and reduce the pocket depths to save your teeth.  Many patients avoid going through treatment because they fear traditional cut and sew surgery.  Now there is a new, minimally invasive laser surgical procedure which is an alternative to traditional techniques!

LANAP

The LANAP® (Laser Assisted New Attachment Procedure) may be recommended by Dr. Paris and Dr. Shumaker to control your gum disease.

Our office is the first and only in Northern Colorado to offer the LANAP® procedure for the treatment of advanced periodontitis.  Both Dr. Paris and Dr. Shumaker are trained and certified in the LANAP procedure by the Institute for Advanced Laser Dentistry (IALD).

This cutting-edge procedure uses the only laser FDA approved for the regenerative treatment of periodontitis (gum disease), the Millenium PerioLase® MVP-7 laser. The LANAP® protocol allows minimally invasive surgical treatment of gum disease to save your teeth!

The LANAP® procedure is backed by over 10 years of clinical research, including human histologic studies which prove this procedure reverses bone loss caused by gum disease by resulting in new attachment to tooth roots, bone regeneration, and improvement in gum tissues to a healthy state.

The LANAP® protocol is a minimally invasive procedure which does not require scalpel incisions or sutures.   LANAP® laser surgery results in substantially less post-treatment pain, return to normal activities rapidly after treatment, and the ability to treat the entire mouth in just 1-2 visits plus followup.  This procedure is revolutionizing the way we treat gum disease as specialists in periodontics.

Laser Periodontal Therapy StepsLANAP® involves several specialized steps which are delivered over a series of just a few appointments, including the LANAP® laser surgical procedure, occlusal (bite) adjustment, occlusal (bite) guard use and associated followup.  Similar to all therapies for advanced periodontitis, after your LANAP® procedure we will continue to maintain you on an every 3 month cleaning scheduled called periodontal maintenance.
